A Link Between Worlds

AA Link Between Worlds is set in the Hyrule of A Link to the Past, centuries later, with a new Link and a new Princess Zelda. The earlier hero's story is told in paintings in Hyrule Castle. The land keeps its old layout, from Kakariko Village and the Lost Woods to Death Mountain and the Eastern Palace.

Link, a blacksmith's apprentice, is returning a sword to the captain of the guard when he sees the sorcerer Yuga turn Seres, the priest's daughter, into a painting at the Sanctuary. Seres is one of the descendants of the Seven Sages, the same line as the maidens of A Link to the Past. Yuga is collecting all of them. A merchant named Ravio gives Link a bracelet that lets him merge into walls. The chase leads to Lorule, a dark counterpart of Hyrule ruled by Princess Hilda.

As in A Link to the Past, Link seeks three Pendants of Virtue and the Master Sword in the Lost Woods. In Nintendo's timeline it comes after the Oracle games. Tri Force Heroes follows the same Link several years later.
